Birchwood is part of WARRINGTON New Town and was developed as clustered neighbourhoods
Within a framework of native woodland and hedgerow planting. Over time as the area has developed there has been a demand for remodelling areas of the estate to be more manageable and to cater for needs such as increased car ownership. SMLA was commissioned to develop proposals across the estate working with the housing association management team and local residents. The project was carried out over several phases and attempted to make a meaningful impact on the neighbourhoods identified through improved parking provision; renewed planting and boundary provision. Although the ecological intent of some of the planting close to houses has been modified planting proposals and hard details have attempted to relate to the original design intent of the area.
